AMERICAN TURF CLUB SELECTIONS: DAY 1
June 8, 2021
American Turf Club (ATC) is a horse handicapping / tips publication that's been around since 1946.   In the past it carried feature articles and the tips were confined to their "Horses to Watch" section but it appears the monthly publication ceased after the December 2017 issue.   Since then the monthly became a weekly, and is now an electronically (Adobe PDF format) delivered tip sheet with one lead article while the rest of the content consists of "horses to watch." Subscription rates for ATC are: 1 issue - $5 / 12 weeks - $51 / 26 weeks - $100 / 52 weeks - $167. I searched for articles similar to this one and could find nothing so decided to monitor their selections for a week and publish the results myself.

For the purposes of this report all horses selected in ATC were wagered in the following way: $2 to win / $2 to place A $1 exacta box was played when more than one selected horse was in a race "X" denotes a losing horse - SCR denotes a scratched horse ATC covers most major to medium sized tracks in the United States, generally speaking the major tracks have a section where they write about the horses, while smaller tracks like the one we'll begin with - Thistledown - only have a list of horses to bet on. Here's how ATC selections did for Monday, June 7, 2021: Thistledown Race 3 - 6 Double Deep $4.9 Race 6 - 2 Romantic Cowboy / 5 Rigged Up $58.60 Race 7 - 5 Murtagh / 7 Diamond Patriot $11.40 In race 3 $4 wagered on 6 Double Deep only paid $4.90 - a pitiful profit of 90 cents.   But this was more than made up for in race 6, where the win/place bets paid $19.60, and the 5-2 exacta paid $49.   In the last selection in race 7 Murtagh finished second at a price of $11.40 to round out a profitable day at Thistledown. Thistledown amount wagered: $24   Amount won: $74.90 Total +$50.90

Thistledown
Race 3 - 6 Double Deep $4.9 Race 6 - 2 Romantic Cowboy / 5 Rigged Up $58.60 Race 7 - 5 Murtagh / 7 Diamond Patriot $11.40
In race 3 $4 wagered on 6 Double Deep only paid $4.90 - a pitiful profit of 90 cents.   But this was more than made up for in race 6, where the win/place bets paid $19.60, and the 5-2 exacta paid $49.   In the last selection in race 7 Murtagh finished second at a price of $11.40 to round out a profitable day at Thistledown.

Race 9 - 1 Flashing Diamond $11.8 Race 10 - 1 Senior Investment X
Only 2 selections for Parx, the win/place wagers on 1 Flashing Diamond in the 9th paid $11.80, while in race 10 the 1 horse Senior Investment required a serious effort to avoid finishing last.
Parx amount wagered: $8   Amount won: $11.80 Total: +$3.80
Race 2 - 3 Oxley Gap $11.1 Race 3 - 6 Time Travel X Race 6 - 6 Kateri Empire SCR Race 7 - 3 Flying Emperor X/ 5 Smooth Tales X
Typo or actual name of horse?   In race 1 ATC had 1 Trank You, on the form is was spelled THANK YOU.   Did not wager, so naturally "Trank You" won at just over 3-1.   Off to a good start in race 2 with 3 Oxley Gap coming in at $7.30 to win and $3.80 to place, but it was all downhill from there.   6 Time Travel in race 3 gave a poor effort, in race 6 horse 6 Kateri Empire was scratched, and in race 7 it was $10 down the drain as neither 3 Flying Emperor or 5 Smooth Tales made any real impression.
Finger Lakes amount wagered: $18   Amount won: $11.10 Total: -$6.90
Race 5 - 5 Alpine Ghost X Race 8 - 10 Brookville Storm $8.60
In race 5 #5 Alpine Ghost ran at 15-1 and maintained the lead early, but as is so often the case with longshots the horse simply ran out of gas and was passed easily by the eventual winner 4 Hard Knocking.   Alpine Ghost finished a distant second to last.   In race 8 #10 Brookville Storm at 10-1 started a bit behind the pack but caught up quickly to take the lead briefly, eventually finishing slightly behind the winner Red Light Kisses for an $8.60 place win.
Indiana Grand amount wagered: $8   Amount won: $8.60 Total: +$0.60
The only selection, in race 9, #8 Oh My Arching Arch, was scratched so nothing to comment on here
Race 4 - 3 Splash Cash $13.20 Race 7 - 3 Blessed Again $5.20
#3 Splash Cash got off to a good start in race 4 at 3-1 and ran strong at the end, paying $8.60 to win and $4.60 to place.   In race 7 #3 Blessed Again ran as the 2-5 favorite and eventually won it going away. Win paid $2.80 and place paid $2.40.
Prairie Meadows amount wagered: $8   Amount won: $18.40 Total: +$10.40
Race 1 - 4 Star Hawk X Race 2 - 2 No Way Never SCR Race 3 - 3 Echo Alpha Six SCR Race 4 - 2 Catlike $7.20 Race 5 - 5 Machinist X Race 7 - 5 Bebopaleon X/ 8 Roman Officer X
In race 1 #4 Star Hawk went off at 62-1 and performed like a 62-1 horse, completely running out of steam and finishing last.   Races 2 and 3 had selections that were scratched.   Race 4 #2 Catlike ran well but was the favorite, win paid $4.60 and place $2.60.   #5 Machinist in race 5 got off to a slow start before coming back to finish 3rd, then race 7 rounded out a poor day at Mountaineer as #5 Bebopaleon and #8 Roman Officer finished 5th and 6th respectively.
Mountaineer amount wagered: $22   Amount won: $7.20 Total: -$14.80
Check back soon for the results from Tuesday, 6/8/21.
